The Trust recently partnered with Anditi to undertake LiDAR remote sensing imagery for the detection of potential ‘targets’ that could represent malleefowl mounds in the Great Victoria Desert. The survey flew over 1675 km or approximately 100,500 ha. Over 100 ‘targets’ were detected from images of the flight path.

In partnership with the National Malleefowl Recovery Team, the next steps are to ground-truth these ‘targets’ to identfy those that represent malleefowl mounds and, of these, which may be active or disused mounds.
